Cruden Group celebrates prestigious International Safety Award

Cruden Group has scooped the British Safety Council’s prestigious International Safety Award for the 25th time.

Only companies with below-average accident rates are eligible to apply and must show evidence that safety policies, plans and training are maintained to stringently high standards.

Cruden also recently won accreditation under the occupational health and safety management system OHSAS 18001.

Tony Barry, health and safety manager for the Cruden Group, said of the safety award: “This is a remarkable achievement especially considering the potential hazards and risks involved in every working day on a construction site.”

The Cruden Group, which builds, refurbishes, repairs and maintains domestic and commercial properties, puts its success down to a total company commitment in maintaining heath and safety standards throughout all of its sites.

An ongoing programme of induction regarding health and safety procedures for all site staff and operatives is consistently applied to ensure the impressive safety record.

Cruden’s accident/incident rate stands at less than 50% of the national average, according to figures supplied by the Health and Safety Executive/British Safety Council.

“This award is not only important for the Cruden Group but for our clients too, in that they have absolute proof in the competence of our site managers in all matters of health and safety,” said Mr Barry.

“With more than 500 man training days centred on safety management and procedures in 2006, and risk assessments and inductions carried out continuously on all staff, we are determined to lift the profile of safety awareness throughout the company.”

David Ballard, chief executive of the British Safety Council, said: “Through achieving an International Safety Award, the Cruden Group is helping make our vision of a safe working environment a reality.”
